2014 Western Road Trip Day 25, Thursday May 29th

We started off the day by filling up with gas and getting a car wash to remove the dust and dirt on the car from yesterdays adventure. Our one and only park for today is the Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. Having been to many volcanic parks, we thought we had seen everything to see, so we had pretty low expectations. Were we wrong! This national park has it all, mountains, streams, lakes, and active volcanic action. This nights blog will be mainly pictures.

This park is one of the last to open because of snow, which was plentiful.

This is Sulphur Works where there is a huge mud pot which was at a full boil and blowing off steam.

These thermal streams flow from the mud pots

The mud pots were almost to the end of the park drive. We drove to the visitors center where Babs and Doe got their passports stamped and we had a picnic lunch.

Tonight we are at Harrah’s Hotel & Casino in Reno, NV. We  had a buffet dinner which I’ll have to say is the best buffet that I’ve had at a hotel in a very long time. After dinner, three card poker, $100 down, go write blog!

Doe has a cold and we all need a “break” day to unwind so we’ll be here until Saturday morning.

Babs Says: Shared the elevator with 3 humans and NINE dogs ranging in size from a Great Dane to a Chihuahua. Turns out they were performers from Circus-Circus doing a convention show here.

Can’t believe there is that much snow left. Do we need to bring jackets if we are going out west in a couple of weeks?

    • Mary,
You should definitely bring a light jacket because it will most likely be cool at night and in the a.m. As far as casinos go, let’s just say that they don’t build them on winners!
